Company Description
Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, is the tertiary care referral center for the 18 counties of Western North Carolina. It is a not-for-profit, independent community hospital accredited by The Joint Commission and is the founding member of Mission Health System, Inc. Mission is affiliated with the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of North Carolina. The hospital also serves as a training site for residency programs offered by the Mountain Area Health Education Center. These include the new 3rd and 4th year UNC Medical School in Asheville and residencies and fellowships in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, dentistry, geriatrics, and two pharmacy residency programs, in acute and ambulatory care. Mission is licensed for 730 beds on its two adjoining campuses. The medical staff has more than 750 physicians representing most specialties and subspecialties. There are more than 6,000 employees and nearly 750 volunteers. Mission has some 44,000 inpatient discharges and 350,000 outpatient discharges a year. It is the busiest surgical hospital in N.C., performing more than 44,000 surgical cases a year. Mission has been repeatedly recognized for its clinical excellence, including its most recent international designation as a Baby Friendly Hospital for its breast feeding initiatives, accreditation as a “Get with the Guidelines” Stroke Gold Plus facility, as a Blue Distinction Center for clinical excellence in both spine surgery and hip and knee replacement, as well as six years as a Top 100 Heart Hospital and consistent top, 3-star ranking by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Other areas of excellence include the Mission Children’s Hospital, Fullerton Genetics Center, and the region’s designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Level II Trauma Center.
